A live war memorial made with public participation and 62,000 red dots. These photos are from the opening on Friday February 2nd in Oakland, CA. The gallery walls were filled with two grids, one for the USA and one for IRAQ. Each grid contained the same number of boxes as the number of people from each country who have died as a direct result of the Iraq War. The USA grid was 2.6FT long by 2FT tall; the IRAQ grid was 48FT long by 2.6FT tall. Participants were given long strips of tiny red dots (the same as those used to indicate a piece of artwork is sold in a gallery) and asked to place the dots anywhere on the grid.
1RED DOT = 1 DEATH
